Christian Johnson

A financial analyst with Mortenson Construction, Christian Johnson joined the ACT board in 2023. His initial acquaintance with microbiome concerns was not a voluntary one, however: he was diagnosed with Crohn’s as a high school freshman in 2011. The severity of his condition did not become apparent to him until he required a bowel resection two summers later. While the recovery dominated a summer and fall, and included some mental challenges, Mr. Johnson calls it one of the best decisions he has made.

“From both personal experience and volunteer work, I can vouch for the difference ACT is making in the lives of people affected by gut disorders. It is a one-of-a-kind organization.”

Technically in “remission,” Mr. Johnson still deals with Crohn’s-related issues on a daily basis. Reflecting on when he was first diagnosed, Mr. Johnson is proud of his ability to manage symptoms and lead a normal, active lifestyle.

Through his parents, who were involved in the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA), Mr. Johnson built a strong connection with Jon and Peter Westerhaus. He especially remembers Peter dropping movies and games at his house when he was going through a major flare. Mr. Johnson credits his longstanding relationship with the Westerhauses, involvement in the CCFA, and personal experience with the disease for spurring his decision to join the ACT board.
