Webinar: Microbiota Transplant for Adults with Autism
Join Achieving Cures Together on Thursday, October 22nd at 6:00pm Central time for our upcoming webinar exploring the link between the gut microbiome, Autism and Pitt Hopkins Syndrome. Doctors James Adams and Rosa Krajmalnik-Brown from Arizona State University will share the latest updates in their research with microbiota transplant therapy.
Many adults with autism have lifelong gastrointestinal disorders (constipation, diarrhea, pain, and/or reflux) starting in infancy and continuing for decades that is resistant to conventional therapies. We conducted a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study of Microbiota Transplant Therapy (MTT) for adults with autism. Treatment involved an antibiotic, a bowel cleanse, and 8-16 weeks of microbiota. MTT resulted in slow, gradual improvements in gastrointestinal symptoms and autism-related symptoms during treatment, and more improvement over the next 18-21 months post-treatment. MTT substantially shifted the microbiome towards that of the donor, with substantial engraftment of beneficial bacteria from the donor. We will also briefly summarize the results of 5 other clinical trials of MTT for autism and related conditions.
